Hill Descent Control (HDC), provides downhill assistance at a safe and controlled rate of speed without requiring the driver to touch the brakes or press a button. HDC operates in Low and Reverse gears, replacing the gear reduction and engine braking that a traditional mechanical lowrange transfer case provides. For ease of operation, Patriot ’s HDC is activated and deactivated automatically according to changes in topography using grade sensing. Once the vehicle is in the Off Road Mode (4WD lock switch engaged and the transaxle selector is in Low or Reverse) a green icon will illuminate on the instrument cluster indicating that the HDC is operating. Should a driver decide to back down a hill, HDC will also back the vehicle down at a controlled rate of speed. By comparison, some competitors feature a dedicated button to engage and operate the HDC, requiring constant input from the driver as the terrain changes. HDC is capable of determining when the vehicle is on a grade or on level terrain via input from the fore/aft acceleration sensor in the ESP Continue to download »
