Fourwheeldrive (FWD) and All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles such as the Australian made Ford Territory may have a Hill Descent Control system navigation installed, using the ABS braking to control the car’s motion downhill, inherited from Land Rover. The system can be controlled, usually by the Cruise Main page Control buttons near or on the steering wheel. Contents Hill Descent Control (HDC) allows a smooth and controlled hill descent in rough terrain without the driver needing to touch the brake pedal. Push a Featured content button and the vehicle will descend using the ABS brake system to control each wheel’s speed. If the vehicle accelerates without driver input, the Current events system will automatically apply the brakes to slow down to the desired vehicle speed. Cruise control buttons can adjust the speed to a comfortable Random article level. Applying pressure to the accelerator or brake pedal will override the HDC system when the driver requires. search With Hill Descent Control drivers can be confident that even the ride down hills with Continue to download »

Hill Descent Control (HDC), provides downhill assistance at a safe and controlled rate of speed without requiring the driver to touch the brakes or press a button. HDC operates in Low and Reverse gears, replacing the gear reduction and engine braking that a traditional mechanical lowrange transfer case provides. For ease of operation, Patriot ’s HDC is activated and deactivated automatically according to changes in topography using grade sensing. Once the vehicle is in the Off Road Mode (4WD lock switch engaged and the transaxle selector is in Low or Reverse) a green icon will illuminate on the instrument cluster indicating that the HDC is operating. Should a driver decide to back down a hill, HDC will also back the vehicle down at a controlled rate of speed. By comparison, some competitors feature a dedicated button to engage and operate the HDC, requiring constant input from the driver as the terrain changes. HDC is capable of determining when the vehicle is on a grade or on level terrain via input from the fore/aft acceleration sensor in the ESP
